Lesson Objectives
Lessons will focus on developing good tone, technique, and musicality through recommended exercises, etudes, and standard repertoire based on the needs of the student. Studying music and learning to play an instrument is not only fun, but can promote the development of many important life skills such as concentration, patience, problem-solving, discipline, responsibility, and good communication skills.
Lesson Supplies
Students are expected to bring the following items to each lesson:
- Instrument in good, working condition
- A pencil
- A metronome and tuner
- Notepad or notebook to write down notes and each weekly assignment
- Any repertoire assigned by the instructor
Lesson Fees
My students can choose to register in one of these two lesson options: a 30 minute lesson ($20) or a 60 minute lesson ($40). Lessons can be paid in advance by the month or at the beginning of each lesson. I do reserve the right to dismiss a student from their lesson if missing payments becomes an issue.
Cancellations
If, for any reason, your child is unable to attend a lesson, please notify me within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson. You may contact me by calling or e-mailing me. If I need to reschedule a lesson with your child, I will also give you at least a 24 hours’ notice.
Practice
Here is my recommended practice schedule:
- Beginner: 20 to 30 minutes; 4+ days a week
- Intermediate: 30 minutes to 1 hour; 5+ days a week
- Advanced: 1 to 2 hours; 6+ days a week.
Listening to great professionals and standard repertoire is vital for your development in music. Students are required to listen to all kinds of music, including the pieces they are working on, in order to advance their musical knowledge and inner ear.
A student’s progress is directly affected by how much they practice!
